Subaru Sumo/Domingo/Libero!

Well, partner, they say a dear child's got many names, and that sure seems to be the case for this here vehicle, even sharing a moniker with a well-known diaper maker, Libero. Gotta say, this ride is downright small and cute for a van. I reckon back to a summer in '92 down in Kristiansand, when I was just a little tyke still sportin' diapers. Caught sight of a Subaru Sumo rollin' around, with some nicotine-addled fellas puffin' away like freight trains. Cigarette butts flyin' out the window one after the other, all in the midst of bone-dry, scorching, and downright flammable conditions. For a little buckaroo like me back then, it felt like a scene straight outta that kids' flick, "The Incredible Journey," where a bunch of wild men in a van, thanks to a cigarette mishap, managed to set a colossal patch of San Francisco ablaze! Ah, the adventures and fantasies of childhood

Cars with wood gas generators from the 70s, popular among Swedish and Finnish greasers!

About Ford Lincoln Mark V and Chevrolet El Camino with wood gas generators. Ain't that a hoot! Cars with wood gas generators, or as they say, "knob generators"! Now, with gas and electricity prices shootin' through the roof and demand for firewood on the rise, did ya know you can make your car run on wood? This here technology's been around since the interwar period. Wood-powered vehicles, also known as cars with wood gas generators, were mighty popular during World War II, especially 'cause there were big issues gettin' hold of gasoline. These generators can run on various fuels like wood chunks, peat, coke, or charcoal. What comes out of a wood gas generator is gas, or wood gas, that powers the car as it goes along. Wood-fired cars also always have a backup gas option, usually gasoline. Now, I've figured out that the latest cars you can convert to run on wood are them American pickup trucks from the late '90s. The Volvo 240 from the early '90...

Pivco City Bee, Think City, Buddy Electric and Kewet Buddy!

Well, shoot, these cars might've been the ones I oughta kicked off this blog with, considerin' we're talkin' about Norwegian rides and brands cooked up right here in Norway. First laid eyes on a Pivco City Bee back in '95 at Hunderfossen, but reckon the first time was on that Newton kids' show on NRK back in the early '90s. Our own Morten Harket, bless his heart, supposedly snagged himself one of them cars, maybe just to breeze through them toll booths for free? Either way, it turned into a solid PR stunt for them two Norwegian brands, Harket and Pivco City Bee. Pivco City Bee supposedly hit the scene in the early '90s. By '94, the first proper prototypes were supposedly ready, just in time for the Lillehammer Olympics. Come the late '90s, somewhere between '95 and '98, seems like a handful of 'em got sold here in Norway. Sadly, today, despite Norwegians bein' all crazy 'bout cars, there's only three left! Two teal ones, o...

Don't junk your ride 'cause times are tough, convert 'em to zero emissions, y'all!

Don't let your car be junked because of tough times, convert them to zero emissions! As most folks are feeling in their bones today, everything has gotten crazy expensive after the pandemic. The ongoing climate crisis that the UN and nations around the world are trying to tackle, including the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, and the insane inflation happening in light of all this, now seems inevitable. As I'm writing this post, Norway has an inflation rate of 5.9%, which is just over half of what Norway experienced in the late '80s and early '90s when interest rates were around 14% or even higher. Here in Norway, we're actually lucky compared to Argentina, which has a whopping 185% inflation! Considering all this, it's no longer sustainable or economically viable to drive around in the kind of cars I've been writing about in this blog. Especially with the gas and diesel prices now sky-high. Electric cars are actually more affordable even today, despite ...

Citroen 2CV!

2CV is a cool car that even the ladies can appreciate. Maybe you'll catch a ride with the ladies in this picture? The Citroën 2CV , (also known as the Dolly ), is the only car I've rambled about on this blog that looks like it stepped straight out of the 1920s-1930s. It's also one of the few, alongside the Lada 2101-2102 and 2103, still kickin' around 30 years later as I pen down this blog post. The Citroën 2CV rolled off the production line for the last time back in 1991. This car can be tricked out into a real hotrod or transformed into an electric vehicle with the legal nod from the Norwegian authorities. Electric cars and cruising are my style, but not the redneck and hotrod vibes. One principal I had back in elementary school once mentioned he rented a 2CV in England. He nearly went bonkers because it had such a lousy pickup that it couldn't even accelerate from one roundabout to the next. - Apparently, roundabouts were a novel concept in England in the 1970s. ...
