Don't junk your ride 'cause times are tough, convert 'em to zero emissions, y'all!

Don't let your car be junked because of tough times, convert them to zero emissions!

As most folks are feeling in their bones today, everything has gotten crazy expensive after the pandemic. The ongoing climate crisis that the UN and nations around the world are trying to tackle, including the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, and the insane inflation happening in light of all this, now seems inevitable.

As I'm writing this post, Norway has an inflation rate of 5.9%, which is just over half of what Norway experienced in the late '80s and early '90s when interest rates were around 14% or even higher.

Here in Norway, we're actually lucky compared to Argentina, which has a whopping 185% inflation! Considering all this, it's no longer sustainable or economically viable to drive around in the kind of cars I've been writing about in this blog. Especially with the gas and diesel prices now sky-high. Electric cars are actually more affordable even today, despite the fact that electricity prices have been put on the market and have become similarly exorbitant.

The best thing is really to either let the car sit or convert it to zero emissions.

Here's an example of a converted electric vehicle. A Ford Cortina GT.

Personally, I've been really saddened lately by cars just sitting and being listed for sale on FINN (Norwegian online marketplace) without finding an owner because people are afraid to afford them. The worst part is that these cars might end up being scrapped or sold to Africa to be heavily used. I recently experienced this myself with a 1980s Toyota Hiace van, a kind of vacation/hippie van similar to the Volkswagen Samba bus. This vacation van had some really cool vintage vacation stickers that I'm afraid are already completely ruined by all the desert dust in the Sahara where it has now ended its last days.

So, don't let your car be junked or driven into the ground in Africa just because of tough times. Convert it to zero emissions or let it sit until the time is right!
