Peugeot 405

Dang, those Peugeot 405s sure had their heyday in Norway during the late '80s and early '90s. Even the Norwegian police hopped on the bandwagon with some variants of these, marking the first proper wheels the cops had to chase down crooks. I've scribbled before about the Peugeot 504, claiming it was a darn good police car, but truth be told, it couldn't hold a candle to the Peugeot 405 (and not to mention the Mercedes-Benz C-Class that rolled in later). The police version of the Peugeot 405 was a spitting image of the Peugeot 405 Mi16, a real powerhouse back in the day.

The Peugeot 405 kept cruising the streets of Norway until 1995 and hung around in the rest of the Western world until 1997. Over in Iran, they're still churning them out, but with a facelifted version called the Peugeot 405 Pars.

Now, let me tell you a wild tale from the roads of Drammen heading up to Tverken. After a drive already packed with peculiar encounters, me, pops, and my brother, along with his buddy, nearly got taken out and flattened by a Peugeot 405. It was being steered by a drunken fella in the late '90s. That guy must have been mighty thirsty because things got real speedy!
