Lada 1500 Electric Lada VAZ 2801 and an abaisance to them gearheads yall!
Lada VAZ 2801 The Soviet Electric Wagon, turns 45 next year. I gotta mention, I got me a T-shirt with a picture of that contraption on it, just to rib my brother-in-law, born in 1980, who's mighty keen on winter sports and hails from Hønefoss. Also, gotta give my old man a hard time 'cause he had some buddies out in the Hønefoss region still cruisin' around in them Ladas (not the electric ones) clear into the '90s.
Now, all Norwegians have heard that tune "Kjøre Lada tel Hønefoss" by Vazelina Bilopphøggers, and last year marked 35 years since the first Lada rolled off the line. That same Lada VAZ Zhiguli was in production from 1970 to 1988. Truth be told, it was originally a Fiat churned out since '66. Next year also marks 20 years since the last of them so-called Zhiguli Ladas (them old Soviet Ladas still keep chuggin' along).
The Lada 2106 bowed out in 2005. And speaking of which, it's been exactly 25 years since Ladas disappeared from Norway and you couldn't snag one from a dealer no more. Ladas were real darlin's in Norway in the '70s and '80s, but plenty of 'em met their end in the '90s. By the 2000s, it was mostly second-hand ones left, and in the past 20 years, there's hardly any left. And while we're talkin' about it, Ladas have long been a hit with Norwegian gearheads, mainly 'cause they're dirt cheap, but also 'cause they're some of the last rides with that classic '70s and '80s rånebil design. Easy to spruce up with spoilers and such, and they even made their mark in rallyin', as I've scribbled about in them posts on Lada 1500 rally cars.
A real Lada 1500 VAZ 2801 as a rånerbil in Ukraine, not many of these left.
In the four pictures above, you can see the Lada 2801 with a roof rack or with a ladder on the roof, and a 3D image where it's decked out with loads of chrome. Not with a ladder, but with a surfboard, still with the roof rack but with a lot more cool stuff on top and plenty of chrome details—you can pimp your Lada 2801 into something really awesome.
