Chevrolet Suburban and Silverado
Chevrolet Suburban as Holden suburban the australian version
Chevrolet Suburban, the same car the farmer test drove. You can actually see this in many American movies, including Armageddon.
Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon Denali, and Holden Suburban – now those were some of the last rides the Americans churned out with that boxy design (though the Holden version was Aussie, still under the GM umbrella). They're known as the cream of the crop, big ol' beasts more akin to trucks than regular cars.
I recollect one time back in 2000, hitchin' a ride in a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban from Rud to Lommedalen. The fella behind the wheel was into horses, just takin' her for a spin. But even though he was all about the farm life, his missus put her foot down, reckonin' the ride was way too darn big for their needs!
Then there was this neighbor down the road where I grew up, drove a Chevrolet Silverado 2500. He was a contractor, in charge of puttin' up a bunch of houses down yonder in our neck of the woods back in the late '90s.
One snowy winter day, with rain pourin' down and the roads slick as owl snot, the neighbor took his Silverado out, loaded to the brim with cinder blocks, both in the bed and hitched to a mighty big trailer. My mom saw him and thought the man was plum crazy. Few hours later, I'm ridin' shotgun with mom, gettin' the lowdown on what went down, while seein' him pull over and call it a day.
Not only did he drive like a bat outta hell, but he hogged up the whole dang narrow street in our neighborhood with his Chevrolet pickup, leavin' the rest of us to back up like a bunch of spooked chickens! It was like somethin' outta the Wild West, and he always came out on top!
His Chevy pickup eventually wore out, driven to the ground, but that stubborn neighbor held onto it for years. Poor ol' Chevy, I say. Or as Roger Murtaugh tells Martin Riggs in Lethal Weapon, "I'm getting too old for this shit."
Which brings me back to Martin Riggs drivin' that GMC 3500, basically the same rig in Lethal Weapon 3.
"And let me tell ya, you can style these rides with some real '80s chrome on the grill, tail fins, tinted windows, American air fresheners, and boxing gloves, or just slap on some badass wheels and extra lights both in the grill and on the windshield – or heck, maybe all of 'em at once!"
