(Peugeot 505, «New York yellow taxi cab»)
The Peugeot 505 first rolled off the line back in '79 and kept on truckin' till '92. Believe it or not, they even made it all the way to the good ol' U.S. of A., where they got rigged up special for taxi duty—yessir, I'm talkin' about the famous "New York yellow cab." The American version sported four double round headlights, which made it mighty slick. Sadly, they quit sellin' the American models in '91. But not before it got its moment in the limelight, showin' up as a New York cab in flicks like Hanky Panky (1982), Hysterical (1983), Slaves of New York (1989), and Crazy People (1990).
Now, my great-uncle had himself one of those Peugeot 505s—reckon it was a 1990 model—with an automatic transmission, electric sunroof, and all the fancy electric doodads you could dream of back then.
Though they pulled the plug on the Peugeot 505 in Europe in '92, don’t fret none! If you're hankerin' to take one of these rigs for a spin, they kept on makin' 'em over in Nigeria and Indonesia clear through the 2000s. So, you still got a shot at cruisin' in style!
