Volkswagen MK3 Type 2 T3 and MK4/T4
These here cars are just flat-out awesome! Had a neighbor down yonder who used to tool around in a red Volkswagen Transporter Type 2 T1 truck, canvas cover on the bed and all, back in the day (and you can read more 'bout that here).
Back when all kinds of strange goings-on were happenin' in our neck of the woods, he came rumblin' along in that old, beat-up '60s VW loaded down with planks for the folks livin' next door. I remember him drivin' like a bat outta hell, and my brother reckoned he was plumb crazy. Nowadays, you'd need a Transporter Type 2 T3 to match that kinda age. My scout leader had one too, and he'd take us cruisin' through the woods in the dead of winter, headin' up to the scout cabin while we got tossed around in the back, nearly takin' out a few grouchy hikers along the way.
The Volkswagen Mk3/Mk4 T4 didn’t run on a boxer engine, but by the time these things got old and tired between 2000 and 2010, they sure started makin' a racket like the old boxer engines on the Type 2 T3.
‘Deck these rigs out with some chrome from the ‘80s, and you could drive ‘em wild all over the place—ideally up in the hills or out in the country, with a Wünderbaum hangin' from the mirror, tossin' some old planks in the bed, picked up cheap at a flea market. Maybe for fixin' up some old cabin in the mountains!’
(That's the kind of car my scout leader drove, but in the van version.)
