Citroën BX 1982-1994, Citroën ZX 1991 till 2009!

Both my uncle and aunt had Citroën BX models. My uncle had the penultimate version—a dark blue 1993 station wagon. It had a lot of issues and problems but was definitely one of the rarer and more unique variants, considering both the number made new and the surviving ones.

He also had an old Saab 99 in the garage, gathering dust because it was non-functional. I’m planning to write about it in a classic car blog I’m really excited to start.

My aunt had the hottest version, a red GTI sports coupe, which was also the most popular model. She lived in Kongsberg and drove like a maniac—fastest in the family and affectionately nicknamed the 'rally driver' by us. Of course, it was all in good fun, as she was a skilled driver, and the rest of us might have been a bit envious."


Another yarn I recall is about the time I was ridin' with my uncle in his Peugeot 605 over in Telemark. On those twisty roads by Seljordsvannet, my uncle was jokin' around, askin' if we could see the Loch Ness Monster while speedin' like a bat outta hell.

One time, we got overtaken by an old, beat-up black Citroën BX Sports coupe. After a few curves, that old car passed us up a steep, winding hill that was kinda open but starting to get a little overgrown with scrubby trees. As it climbed, that Citroën was swayin' all over the place with its hydropneumatic suspension, and for a split second in the hardest turn, it looked like the suspension might give out. My uncle quipped dryly, "That car’s got real Citroën written all over it!" And speaking of that black Citroën, it was belching out a ton of black smoke, and the driver had a long black ponytail that fit the car's shabby look perfectly. Could it be the same guy I mentioned in my post about the Lada 2104?


The Citroën ZX appeared in the film Ronin as a police car in the car chase involving the BMW 5 Series, which I’ve mentioned in a previous post. The Citroën ZX was produced in Europe and the West until 1998, and in China as the Fukang until 2009

Pivco City Bee, Think City, Buddy Electric and Kewet Buddy!

Well, shoot, these cars might've been the ones I oughta kicked off this blog with, considerin' we're talkin' about Norwegian rides and brands cooked up right here in Norway. First laid eyes on a Pivco City Bee back in '95 at Hunderfossen, but reckon the first time was on that Newton kids' show on NRK back in the early '90s. Our own Morten Harket, bless his heart, supposedly snagged himself one of them cars, maybe just to breeze through them toll booths for free? Either way, it turned into a solid PR stunt for them two Norwegian brands, Harket and Pivco City Bee. Pivco City Bee supposedly hit the scene in the early '90s. By '94, the first proper prototypes were supposedly ready, just in time for the Lillehammer Olympics. Hyundai Galloper/Mitsubishi Pajero!

(The Galloper version of the Pajero was produced with an 80s design all the way until 1997. You can import this from overseas, and it can be decked out with a winch, wide tires, and lights in the grille.) (Back in the early '80s, folks on the homesteads were drivin' Mitsubishi Pajeros like that. The grille looks a lot like my old man's Mazda) Hyundai Galloper and Mitsubishi Pajero , rolling since 1982 and rocking that '80s design until '97. Mitsubishi Pajero, a beast of a car that I've always seen as a ghostly presence from the days of high cigar-fueled swagger in the '80s, with all those yuppies and whatnot. I remember a girl in elementary school, a few years older, whose mom cruised around in a Mitsubishi Pajero. She was a doctor in the local clinic, living the good life. Toyota Hiace MK5 and MK6

Y'see them Toyotas in them first two snaps? Well, they were the last of their breed to roll off the lots in the West. Production came to a screechin' halt 'cause of that Japan nuclear plant mishap. Them rides were a hit in places like Finland, the British Isles, Sweden, and Norway. And Norway was the final stop on the European tour before the curtain dropped on this model. "Now, them Toyota Hiace Mk5 and Mk6, well, they're just plain cool for gettin' sideways. You can whip 'em 'round with either four-wheel or rear-wheel drive. And if you're feelin' fancy, you can spruce 'em up with some '80s chrome tail fins, tinted windows, extra lights, and a dangly wünderbaum. The other Hiace you see there, well, it kept on truckin' till 'round 2018-2019, albeit abroad."
