Volkswagen Passat B3 1988-1993, Volkswagen Corrado 1988-1995

Well, let me tell y’all ‘bout this fella from brutter’s class. He used to roll around in a Volkswagen Passat B3, and I reckon I’ve even crossed paths with him on the ski tracks back in our local sports club days.

Now, lemme tell ya, this guy wasn’t just beatin’ me on the slopes—he had all the fancy gear too. While I was strugglin’ with my hand-me-down skis, he was out there glidin’ like a pro on some shiny new, top-of-the-line equipment. And if that wasn’t enough, he was decked out in a 1994 Lillehammer suit, which cost a small fortune back then. I mean, c’mon—how’s a kid supposed to feel when the whole dang setup screams ‘Daddy’s money’?

Passat Upgrades: Daddy’s at It Again

That Passat B3 of theirs went out of production in 1993, and not long after, wouldn’t ya know it, the boy’s dad upgraded to a shiny new Passat B4. Of course, 'cause why not? Pappa betaler—Daddy’s payin’ for all of it.

From Family Car to Rånerbil

Here’s the kicker: not too long ago, I knew someone who picked up a used Passat B3 and turned it into a rånerbil. That’s right—a decked-out ride for cruisin’ the streets, with loud music and all. It’s kinda funny how the same car can go from haulin’ spoiled kids to tryin’ to look cool on the town."

How’s that for some small-town rivalry and a little car drama?

Now, lemme tell y’all ‘bout the Volkswagen Corrado from 1988 to 1995—a downright awesome sports car from Volkswagen! It’s kinda like the Volkswagen Scirocco, but newer and slicker. I’ve seen a fair few of these cruisin’ ‘round the Drammen area, and man, they’re somethin’ else.

Crazy Neighbor, Crazy Cars

Back ‘round the year 2000, I had this wild neighbor who drove a Volkswagen Passat B3, the decked-out version with leather seats and all the bells and whistles. Seemed like money was fallin’ from the sky for her—she was always rentin’ or borrowin’ cars, switchin’ ‘em out every other week. Maybe she hit the lottery? Who knows. But one thing’s for sure: these Passats can be pimped out real good, and they’ve got plenty of power to lay down some serious rubber.

The Kolsås Connection

Then there’s this family friend over in Kolsås—a spittin’ image of that bald fella from NRK who hosts those Easter and Christmas quiz shows. He drove a Volkswagen Passat B4, and he was big into orienteering. Used to run for Tyrving, but back in the day, he was part of the Bærums Verk IF team before they merged into Tyrving’s orienteering club in ‘94.

A Twist in the Tale

Now here’s a kicker: the NRK guy’s doppelgänger works in the car parts business, supplyin’ Norwegian workshops and importers. He ain’t much of a car guy himself, but he sure knows his stuff. So even if he ain’t burnin’ rubber, I reckon he deserves a mention here in this råner blog. You gotta respect someone who’s got their hands in the car game, even if they’re keepin’ it low-key."

(The Galloper version of the Pajero was produced with an 80s design all the way until 1997. You can import this from overseas, and it can be decked out with a winch, wide tires, and lights in the grille.) Lada 2107: Lada Riva/Classic/Rally!

(The Teachers Lada 2107) (This car was the last off the production line in 2012) Lada 2107 / Lada Riva, they sold plenty of 'em in Norway in the 80s and 90s, but nowadays they're a rare sight in the Norwegian car market. You can still get your hands on models all the way up to 2012 over in Russia, where folks were real fond of ’em, and down in Egypt too, where they kept crankin’ ’em out till 2015, thanks to the Alamal Group. These cars are prone to rust in the channels and usually don't last longer than 10 years. However, if you're a true car enthusiast who shows love for these models, you can enjoy one for many, many years. To stay in the know about these cars, it's recommended to join a Lada Club, for example there is one in Lier in Norway, which specializes in these models. Fiat 131 , also known as the Mirafiori, 2000 TC Sport, and 131 Abarth, was a remarkably popular taxi model in Pakistan, India, the Middle East, and even featured prominently in Sahara-based films from the '70s and '80s. Surprisingly, I never knew that this particular model was licensed and produced by manufacturers in these developing countries. It wasn't until recently that I discovered these cars were manufactured until as late as 2010 in Turkey, Egypt, and Ethiopia by Turkish Tofaş, Egyptian NASR, and Ethiopian Holland Car (also known as Holland DOCC). The Fiat 131 was also produced by the Polish FSO Polonez, or Polski Fiat, where it was known as the Fiat 131p, with the 'p' denoting Polonez or Poland. The original Fiat 131 was produced from 1973 to 1984 by the main Fiat company as the successor to the Fiat 124, remaining in production for over a decade.
