Volvo Valp (Puppy)

These rigs were used by the Norwegian military all the way from the 1960s up till around the year 2000. Now, they stopped makin’ ’em back in the ’80s, sure enough but they kept runnin’ strong for decades after. That’s why these ain’t just some regular ol’ boy’s street car from the ’90s or early 2000s, no sir, these are proper veteran machines!

Now the big difference between this rig and somethin’ like a Volkswagen Samba bus, a Mini Morris, a Lada 2106, or even one o’ them ol’ Bugs (that kept on rollin’ off the line well past 2000), is that this here’s a military-grade truck. She was built tough, by the book, to meet strict-as-hell standards when it came to quality and maintenance.

This ol’ Volvo, folks call it the “Felt” or “Valp” back in Norway, didn’t even hit the used market till sometime between the ’90s and 2000s, when the army started sellin’ ’em off. And let me tell ya, even if they were decades old by then, most of ‘em felt like damn near new.

Nowadays, these Volvos range anywhere from 35–40 up to 50–60 years old. But the newer ones,  the last of the bunch,  they’ve still got plenty o’ life left in ’em. Hell, you could cruise around in one for another 15, maybe 20 years, just like that old PV Volvo a buddy of mine was raisin’ hell in till 2021. That car was dang near 57 years old at the time or close enough to count, anyway.
